The Builder

The Builder is where blocks and questions are created and edited. Open it from any project, it is the first tab in the survey header, next to Survey Logic, Ratings, Settings, Data and Results, and Assets.

Layout

The page lists your blocks in participant order. Between and around blocks sit insertion bars, Add Block Below, Add Code Block Below, and Add Rating Task Below, so new content lands exactly where you want it. An empty survey shows the same actions as a centered starting point. On wide screens a Minimap column lists the blocks for quick jumping and highlights the one you are scrolled to.

Blocks

A block is one participant-facing page. Block controls live in its header

  • Title, edited in place.
  • Randomize questions, shuffles the block's question order per participant. The participant's actual order is recorded and appears in exports.
  • Block type, Standard Block or the specialized rating-task block (see Rating tasks).
  • View opens a preview jumped straight to this block.
  • Delete sends the block and its questions to the survey Recycle Bin.
  • The grip handle drags the block to reorder it. On touch screens, press and hold the grip for a moment to start dragging, a plain swipe scrolls.

Below the questions, each standard block has a Submit button label field, the participant's continue button for that page reads whatever you type (it defaults to Continue). Rating-task blocks configure their label in the Ratings tab instead.

A Code Block is a block prefilled with one Content question for custom HTML or JavaScript, see the Content type in Question types.

Questions

Each question card has a header row with its type dropdown, a stable ID chip (used by display logic and exports), the requirement dropdown, and per-question actions, duplicate, save to the Question Repository, and delete. The question text is rich text, see Rich text and media. Helper text and input placeholders are separate optional fields under the text.

Changing a question's type migrates whatever can be carried, choices map to matrix columns and back, scale ranges become slider matrices, form fields become choices, and so on. Anything that cannot carry is dropped, undo restores the previous state if the result is not what you wanted.

Undo, redo, and history

Every edit, text, options, settings, deletions, reorders, lands in the undo history with a readable label. The undo and redo buttons sit in the survey header, each has a dropdown listing recent steps so you can jump straight to a point. Cross-page actions navigate you to the page where the change lives before reverting it.

The survey Recycle Bin

Deleted blocks, questions, and answer choices go to the Recycle Bin (button in the survey header) and can be restored from there. This bin is per survey and separate from the dashboard's project-level bin.

Saving

There is no save button, edits persist as you make them and a toast confirms each save. If a published version is edited, the first edit forks a new draft automatically, see Versions and publishing.
